Putting on the Pounds

Hitting the bookstands, somewhere in the UK, is the second-ever edition of Forgotten Worlds. It’s a new, semi-professional, speculative fiction print mag, and here’s the line-up for the latest edition.

The Verbpire by Fredrick Obermeyer

Drawback by Michael Cregan

A Handful Of Dust by Ruth Nestvold

Frostbyte by Lisa Mantchev

Of All The Things I’ve Lost by Daniel R. Robichaud

The Recliner by Marsheila Rockwell

Specified Perils by David Wright

A Message From Michael by Joseph Baneth Allen

Blackheath by Bret Tallman

Father Fayad’s Curious Compatibility Projector by Mike Duran

You’ll notice, I’m pulling up the rear. What you may not notice is the good company I’m with. For instance, Ruth Nestvold has had stories shortlisted for the Tiptree award and been nominated for the Sturgeon award, and Lisa Mantchev is on editorial staff with Shimmer and her stories have appeared in Strange Horizons, one of my all-time favorite sci-fi mags.

I love dabbling in speculative fiction (sci-fi, to the non-initiates), and Father Fayad’s Curious Compatibility Projector fits the bill. It ranks up there as one of the most peculiar titles I’ve ever penned (The Jagged Hole in Ferrymoor Two being a close second). Anyway, I’m pretty stoked. It’s my second story in actual print (as opposed to e-zine) and second-best paying writing gig to date. In fact, I got paid in British pounds. Cheerio!

Thanks to Forgotten Worlds and to you good folks who are rushing over there (after leaving a comment here, of course) to purchase a copy.
