Christian Fiction Panel up @ NJ

Not long ago, I threatened to assemble a team of authors, editors and people in the know to answer some questions regarding Christian Speculative Fiction. Well, I’ve gone and done it! Frank Creed, Jeff Gerke and Becky Miller agreed to the interrogation aptly titled  Christian Speculative Fiction Panel — Pt. 1.  If you’re interested in Spec-fic and its place in the Christian publishing industry, follow the link above.

I read through that and a few of the links, it’s an interesting read. I was curious about the End of The Map site because a lot of the books mentioned there had covers that, instead of looking like fantasy or scifi, looked like Christian romance novels or something. And if they didn’t look like that, there was a good chance they just looked like self-help books. A little less than half had reasonable fantasty and scifi looking book covers.

I know, I know, don’t judge a book by it’s cover. But there are entire websites devoted to scifi books with good and bad covers and I think it’s something that Christian authors and publishers like to skimp out on…

Eric, for the most part, I think you’re right. I’m a big “cover guy” and believe that, especially for sci-fi fans, a good cover goes a long way in selling the book. I agree with your assessment that many Christian spec-fic book covers do not do justice to the genre. However, I think the Marcher Lord Press covers have got a good start. For instance, check out THIS COVER of The Personifid Invasion and THIS COVER for Summa Elvetica. I like both of these and hope MLP starts a trend toward better covers.
