When Truth Falters, Ads Rule

This commercial is brilliant! Or maybe scary is a better word. Watch…

The makers of this ad want you to believe that you are a thetan, an amnesiac god who’s forgotten your true nature, and that long ago, an alien ruler named Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and detonated hydrogen bombs, killing them. Their essences remain on earth and cause us much harm. But you can be free of them… for a hefty fee.

Of course, by watching this ad, you’d never know that.

It’s part of the most recent Scientology ad campaign. And yes, the other ads are just as slick, chilling, and, um, deceptive. Perhaps it speaks to the power of the new media. When truth falters, bring on the ad campaign.

Scary is the word for it. Anyone with enough money can deceive a lot of people.

The commercials for scientology are brilliant, "meaningful", enticing, and deceitful. The "angel of light" approach to eternal death. It is scary.

I dunno. I've seen a few of these now, and in the end they seem to say a whole lot of nothing.

But it's that they say it so well.

I could probably make a case to their marketing team that if you haven't actually made a statement, you have not, in fact communicated. 0=)

        But I"m being ornery.
