Salvaged Typewriter

Having purchased a dilapidated house stockpiled with junk and intermittent antiquities, upon inspection, a friend of ours knew exactly who to call. Which is why several weeks back I found myself sifting through a cobweb-laden garage, where I extricated this baby — an Underwood typewriter circa early 1900’s.

It’s in awful shape, as you can see (I haven’t yet attempted to clean it), and it weighs 28 pounds! 28 pounds! In an age of feather-light palm-sized devices, this monster is a memento to a far-distant age. It’s an incredible find… I just don’t know what I’m going to do with it!

    Awesomely old typewriter!

My wife worked in an old building when we lived near Hartford, CT. They had super old typewriters in display cases, almost in perfect condition. The guard let me take them out and photo them.

My novel involves an old typewriter as a minor plot device. I should dig those photos out and use it in the cover art. Hmm…

I’ve got one that’s in great condition. All it needs is a new tape.

That Underwood is gorgeous. Don’t let me get too close to it. Ever. Or you might not see it again.
